What is the hiring process for CMS?

BIB handles many steps of the hiring process for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.  Here is what you can expect:

1.  Background Check - This is the first step of the process.  You will be notified via email when the background check begins, and when it is complete.

2.  Drug Test - As soon as your background check begins processing, you will be emailed instructions on how to order a drug test.  The order must be placed within 24 hours of receiving.  Please be sure to check your spam folder!  If you are out of town, you can still select from clinics that are nearby your current location, and if none appear, an option for BIB to select one for you manually will appear.  You must complete the drug test within 48 hours (not including weekends).  The expiration date is listed on the top of the form you receive via email after placing your order.

3.  Health Screening Services - Once the drug test results come back as negative, you will receive an email regarding the health screening services required by CMS.  CMS requires a North Carolina Health Exam Certificate and a negative TB result.  The email will contain instructions on placing your order for these services.  You must pay for these services, as CMS does not cover this portion of the hiring process.  You can select a clinic from CMS's network, or choose to use your own doctor for these services.  If you choose to use your own doctor, you'll be responsible for providing BIB the results.  You also have the option to transfer paperwork from another North Carolina school.  If you choose this option, you are responsible for providing BIB the documents.  You'll need to contact your former employer for a copy.  The documents are only acceptable if you have been separated from your former employer for less than 1 year.

4.  Fingerprinting and I-9 Services - After you place the order for your health screening services, you'll receive email instructions on how to complete the Fingerprinting and I-9.  The I-9 requires you fill out a short website form.  Afterwards you may make an appointment to complete the services at the CMS administration office.  A Calendly link for each will be included in order for you to do this.

At this point, you have completed pre-hire services with BIB.   All other steps will be handled by CMS.
