What to Expect: The CMS Hiring Process
Bchex manages several steps of the hiring process on behalf of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). Below is an overview of what you can expect at each stage.
Step 1: Background Check
Your background check is the first step in the process. You will be notified by email when your background check begins and again when it is complete.
Step 2: Drug Test
Once your background check is underway, you will receive an email with instructions to register for your drug test.
- Register for your drug test using the link provided in the email.
- After registering, you will have 48 hours to visit the clinic you selected to complete the test.
- Be sure to bring the authorization form you received by email, or have it available on your personal device.
⚠️ Please check your spam folder if you do not see the email in your inbox.
Step 3: Health Screening
CMS requires all new hires to complete the following:
- A North Carolina Schools Health Certificate
- A TB test
You have several options for completing these services:
- Transfer completed paperwork from another NC School district
- Services performed by your own physician or clinic
- Services performed by a clinic from the list of participating locations in the Charlotte area
Please note: You will need a credit card to pay for health screening services. An $8 administrative fee applies to all transactions, regardless of which option you choose (personal physician, clinic, or paperwork transfer from another district).
- Register using the link provided in the email.
Transferring Paperwork from Another North Carolina School District
If you have previously completed these requirements at another North Carolina school district, you may have the option to transfer your paperwork. You will be responsible for obtaining the documents from your former employer. Please note that transferred documents are only accepted if you have been separated from your former employer for less than one year.
After Completing Health Screening Registration
Once payment is complete, you will receive several follow-up emails containing:
- A receipt of your transaction
- Your authorization form and a blank copy of the NC Schools Health Certificate
- Instructions to complete Section 1 of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Form
- Instructions to electronically sign a fingerprint release form and schedule an appointment for fingerprinting and Section 2 of your I-9
Step 4: Fingerprinting and I-9
Fingerprinting and I-9 completion are scheduled through a link provided in your email. Your appointment will take place at the CMS administration office at 4339 Stuart Andrew Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28217.
You're Almost Done!
Once you have completed all of the steps above, your pre-hire process with Bchex is complete. All remaining steps will be handled directly by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Completing each step promptly will help ensure a smooth and timely start to your employment with CMS. If you have any questions along the way, our team is here to help.
