Test Cancelled-Invalid Results (non-dot results)

The MRO office has created this sheet to help our clients better understand our process regarding non-dot invalid lab-based results.

Reason for Invalid- The MRO team will not add the reason a test was invalid on the result as we follow the same protocol as DOT results. It will say “Invalid Result” and be closed as test cancelled. For DOT results we are not allowed by regulations to add that reason, therefore we follow the same protocol for non-dot results.

The way to best explain this to your client is when a test is invalid that means the lab couldn’t complete testing on the specimen. It doesn’t necessarily mean the donor did anything wrong. A result can be Invalid for many reasons. The lab or the MRO cannot say exactly what happened to cause that result to be invalid.  If during the donor interview with the MRO team, the donor admits to tampering with the sample, the result will be reported as a refusal to test with a condition of “donor admitted to tampering”.

In reference to whether a recollection should be conducted after the initial test has been cancelled for non-dot results, this would default to company policy.  For DOT results, the MRO will add a comment advising if a recollection under direct observation is required.

If a client would like the reason for the invalid on a cancelled test, they may email our compliance team at compliance@i3screen.com and request that.

Thank you.
